Dorothy Ann (Pella) Baum

Long-time Nebraska resident Dorothy A (Pella) Baum, known to many as Dot, passed peacefully in her home on August 31, 2017. She was born on her family's Homestead in rural Tecumseh, Nebraska, on July 18th, 1920. Living on the farm she and her husband Lester shared up until his death in 1996, Dorothy continued to reside there independently until she moved to Yuma, Colorado, in 2011 to be with family. At the age of 90, with the help of family and friends, Dorothy loaded up her belongings and her faithful kitty companions and made the trek to Colorado. Although spending periods of her life as an insurance agent, a cook at Maple Grove nursing home, and the many hats worn by a housewife and mother, Dorothy's true love was being a farmer's wife. She was able to continue experiencing checking cows and helping with small farming chores up until the end of her life. During her stay in Colorado, Dorothy resided in the home of her daughter and son-in-law Cindy and Tim Stulp, and was joined in 2015 by daughter Deb Baum, who moved from  Massachusetts. Although not joining them in Colorado, daughter Kathy McKnight of Rockford, Illinois, spent many vacations with Dorothy in her new home. Numerous visits and phone calls from family and friends kept her ties to the Nebraska area strong. Dorothy will be making her final journey back to Nebraska for a memorial service in the future. We thank all of her family and friends, from both Colorado and Nebraska, for the love and prayers shared during her 97 years, as well as at this time of mourning.
