Betty was born on December 7, 1924 at the family farm north of Eckley, Colorado to James and Nora (Sullivan) Brophy.  She passed away on June 17, 2017 at the Parrish Care Center in Yuma, Colorado at the age of 92 years, 6 months and 10 days.  She was the seventh child of twelve in the Brophy family. 

She attended Sunlit School for eight years and Waverly School for one and a half years.  When her brother Paul joined the Navy she quit school and went to work in the restaurant in Wray.

She married Jack Eastin on June 9, 1945 three daughters were born to this union; Judy (Bing) Walters, Jean Gilbo and Joyce Lawson. Betty and Jack moved to Vernon where Jack worked for Nova Akey farm and then they moved North of Eckley and worked for Tom Brophy. 

Jack and Betty moved to Denver late in 1954 and lived with Jack's parents until they were able to move into their new home in Derby in 1955.  Betty was a homemaker and belonged to the Altar and Rosary at St. Catherine's in Derby.  She also belonged to a bowling league.  Jack passed away on April 1, 1966. After Jack passed away she waited tables at Gola Gardens. 

In August of 1967 she married Robert Shapard.  One daughter was born to this union, Bobbie Shapard.  Upon marrying Bob she inherited three daughters; Judy Adams, Jacque (Jim) Strauch and Pat (Boyd) Fuller.  After her marriage to Bob, they bought the Yuma Locker and moved to Yuma so Betty could take care of her mother.

In Yuma she was an active member of St. John's Altar and Rosary Society, The VFW Auxiliary, Pleasant Valley Ladies Aide.  She drove for County Express until her retirement in 1997.  She had a large group of bowling friends that she bowled with and travelled to state tournaments with.  She enjoyed making and sharing popcorn  balls and cabbage pockets with family and friends. 

Betty was preceded in death by her husband's:  Jack Eastin and Robert Shapard; daughter, Jacquie Strauch; Son-in-law, Mike Gilbo; granddaughter, Debbie (Strauch) Kennedy; brothers, Tom Brophy; John and Betty Jo Brophy; Rob Brophy; Charles Brophy; Paul and Patty Brophy; sisters, Mary Church; Agnes and Carl Lauridson; Judy and Sid Veto; Lorretta and Bill Ralph; In-laws, Jean Brophy, Mary Lou Brophy and Dorothy Brophy; John and Betty Eastin; Gene and Evelyn Eastin; George Eastin; Laura and Max Garten and  Tillie Andrews. 

Betty is survived by children, Judy (Bing) Walters; Jean Gilbo; Joyce Lawson, Bobbie Shapard; Judy Adams, Jim Strauch, Pat and Boyd Fuller; 10 grandchildren: Scott Kennedy, Steve (Amy) Walters; Brian (Jocelyn) Walters; Bridger (Kristen) Gilbo; Brett Gilbo; Cory (Elli) Eastin, Robbie Beaman; David Beaman; Troy (Teri) McDaniel; Janet (Mike) Possehl, Greg (LeAnn) Strauch; 16 great grandchildren: Seth, Austin, Shea and Allison Walters; Piper and Finn Gilbo; Brooks Eastin; Rebecca and Rachel Kennedy; Sean Beaman; Michael and Steve Beaman; Trevor and Tiana McDaniel; Aly Jo Brunner and Elly Ann Strauch;  2 brothers,  Jim and Des Brophy along with many favorite nieces and nephews, relatives and friends. 

The Rosary was held on Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. at the Baucke Funeral Chapel in Yuma, Colorado; There was a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, June 22, 2017 at 3:30 p.m. at St. John's Catholic Church in Yuma, Colorado with Father Jonathan Dellinger officiating.  Interment followed at the Yuma Cemetery.  Baucke Funeral Home directed the service.
