Shirley Elaine Claymon

1941  -  2017

Shirley Elaine (Hixon) Claymon was born December 3, 1941 to Lloyd Vernon Hixon and Virginia O. (Woods) Hixon in Imperial, Nebraska.  She passed away at her home in Amherst , Colorado on March 27, 2017 at the age of 75. 

Shirley attended the Country Grade School near Grant, Nebraska and the Perkins County High School in Grant, Nebraska.  After graduating high school she attended the West Nebraska General Hospital of Nursing where she was pinned as a Registered Nurse.  During her nursing career, she worked at the Ogallala Community Hospital, the Perkins County Hospital in Grant, Nebraska and the Melissa Memorial Hospital in Holyoke, Colorado. 

On March 26, 1966 she married Delvin Claymon, and to this union 3 children were born, Nilla Claymon, Darrell Claymon and Daren Claymon.  Delvin and Shirley were blessed with fifty years of marriage before Delvin's passing on January 29, 2017.

Family and raising her children were very important to Shirley.  Along with her nursing career she helped manage the family farm.  She had many hobbies such as knitting, crocheting, ceramics, gardening , making jewelry and photography.  She was a long-time member of the United Methodist Church. 

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Delvin Claymon; father, Vern Hixon; brother, Loyd Hixon and son, Darrell Claymon. 

Shirley is survived by mother, Virginia Hixon; daughter, Nilla Claymon; son, Daren Claymon; daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Claymon;  niece, Jeana Hixon; nephew, Matt Hixon; sister-in-law, Loretta Klatka; brother-in-law, Don Klatka; cousins, Isla and Dwayne Powell along with many other relatives and friends. 

The Funeral Service was held on Monday, April 3, at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Holyoke, Colorado with Pastor Al Strauss officiating.  Interment followed at the Holyoke Cemetery in Holyoke, Colorado.  Baucke Funeral Home directed the service.
