Richard Everett Preuss

Richard Everett Preuss a long-time resident of Kirk, CO passed away on March 4th, 2017 at the Hillcrest Care Center in Wray, CO at the age of 88. 

Richard was born in Kirk at the family home on Nov. 28th, 1928 to Herbert and Goldie (Meinecke) Preuss. Richard spent his entire life in the Kirk community and graduated from the Kirk School in 1947. 

After graduating from school Richard was employed for the Kirk School as a bus driver.  That was when he met his wife of 64 years, a high school student riding his bus.  Richard married Pauline Duff on Dec. 5th 1952 in Idalia CO.  To this union three children were born; Betsy, Nancy and Glenn. 

Richard and Pauline worked the family farm until it was sold in 1981.  Richard then went to work for the Stratton Equity Co-op as fertilizer maintenance man then over the road truck driver.  Richard worked for the Stratton Equity Co-op until his diagnosis of MS and his illness would not allow him to continue.

Richard in his younger year’s boat raced where he won many trophies, took flying lessons and loved to cruze around on his Harley. Richard was also an outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing and boating with all his family and friends. Richard and Pauline enjoyed traveling and visited destinations such as Alaska, Nashville, Florida, Missouri, Texas and a most recent trip to  California with their daughter’s.

Richard leaves to mourn his wife Pauline, Daughter Betsy and husband Dave Shaw of Cope,  their children Kari (Shaw) Beauprez and husband Alex of Otis, , Brian Shaw and wife Katie of Yuma,  Daughter Nancy and husband Delbert Dietz of Kirk, their children Summer (Dietz) Ochoa and husband Nico of Windsor, CO, Dustin Dietz of Ft Collins,  and Grandson Gatlenn Preuss of Limon.  Great grandchildren Danae Beauprez, Daden Beauprez, Paxton Shaw, Declan Shaw, Gage Ochoa and Logan Ochoa.  Sister Barbara (Preuss) Adolf and husband Ralph of Yuma and a host of family and friends.

Richard was proceeded in death by his parents Herbert and Goldie Preuss, Pauline’s parents Gerald and Vera Mae Duff, and Richard and Pauline’s beloved son Glenn Preuss.

Funeral service was held March 11th, 2017 at 2:00 p.m.at the Kirk United Methodist Church in Kirk, with Pastor Lee Dotson officiating.  Burial was at the Kirk Cemetery.  Arrangements made by Baucke Funeral Home.
