Marie Emma Benedict

Marie Emma Benedict (Busing) was born on March 10, 1940 to Albert Dietrich and Emma Mary Margeret (Gemaehlich) Busing in Otis, Colorado. Marie passed away on July 20, 2017 at Yuma Life Care Center.

Marie was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Otis, Colorado. She graduated From Otis High School in 1958. During her high school years and beyond she was a waitress at Otis Café.

Marie married Allen Douglas and to this union her son Terry Lynn Douglas was born. Ten years later she had her first born daughter Sherry Dawn Douglas. On June 7, 1974 Marie married Duane Frank Benedict in Otis, Colorado and to this union her second daughter Tina Marie was born. Marie and Duane also struggled with the loss of three stillborn sons.

Marie was a homemaker first and foremost; Marie worked at the Yuma Theatre for many years alongside her husband Duane, she also loved being around people which lead her to become a saleswomen including Shaklee and Watkins.  Her passion was selling Avon which she received numerous awards for her sales effort. During these years Marie inquired multiple friends and each one of these were dear to her heart.

Throughout Marie’s life she was involved in many community activities such as being a Girl Scout leader for many years, an American Legion Member for 28 years which she served as the President for 5 years and did poppies and memorial services. She crocheted each resident at Yuma Life Care Center their own blanket for Christmas for years. She spent her free time crocheting, cross stitching, doing word searches and coloring in Adult coloring books.

 The love of Marie’s life was being a grandma to her 6 grandkids which she crocheted each one of them several of their own blankets.

Marie was preceded in death by her husband Duane, parents, Albert and Emma Busing, her sister Margeret Ann, brother Dietrick and her 3 stillborn sons.

She is survived by her son Terry Douglas of Otis CO, daughter Sherry (Douglas) Parrish of Wray, CO and kids Sadie Marene, Trinity Paige, Alara Rose and her only grandson Lucas James, daughter Tina Benedict-Samora and husband Ray of Yuma CO, Geneva Rae Peterson and fiancé Abraham Alvarado of Sterling CO, Erin Dawn Peterson of Yuma, CO, and Step-grandkids Hailey Micheal of Goodland, KS and Nathaniel Frank of Yuma, CO. Brother William Busing and wife Shamie of Cortez, CO, sister-in-law Diane Busing of Rosville CA. and many extended family and friends.

The service was held on July 26, 2017 at the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Yuma, Colorado at 10 A.M.  Interment followed the service at the Yuma Cemetery.  Pastor Dennis Fitzpatrick officiated the service and Baucke Funeral Home conducted the arrangements.
