Marcella Catherine Ebbers Glanz

Marcella Catherine Glanz of Yuma Colorado entered eternal life October 13, 2015 at Yuma District Hospital after a short battle with pneumonia and kidney failure.

Marcella Catherine Ebbers was born October 19, 1931 to George Meinolph Ebbers, Jr. and Catherine Christina Schlautman Ebbers in Fleming, Colorado where her parents had moved from Howells, Nebraska. Six days later, Oct 25th she was baptized at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Fleming.  Marcella was the second daughter of nine girls born to the Ebbers’ family.  Marcella grew up in the Lone Star community located south of Fleming.  She attended the Plains View School in Yuma County and later Lone Star School where she graduated in 1949. Marcella’s parents were farmers and she helped her father often on the farm by milking the cows and working in the fields.

Marcella met Joseph Henry Glanz while attending Lone Star School and they were married October 19, 1949 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Fleming, Colorado.  To this union six children were born: Jerry Lee, Randy Joe, Sherry Ann, Billy Ray, Lindy Lou and Penny Sue.

Joe and Marcella began their life together in the New Haven community and later moved to Sterling where Marcella worked as a waitress.  Joe joined the Marine Corp in 1952 and after his basic training they moved to Camp Lejune, North Carolina where they spent the next two years.  After Joe completed his time in the service they moved back to New Haven.  In 1958 the family moved to Yuma where Marcella took in ironing to supplement the family income and worked for two seasons at the Gisi Turkey plant.  From 1965 to 1969 the family leased the Enco service Station and Bulk Plant.  Many hours were spent at the station as they worked side by side in the family business.  After closing the service station Marcella went to work at Montgomery Wards for two years.  In June of 1971, Marcella went to work for Shop-All and worked there for the next 36 years.  She worked as a checker, was in charge of the Hallmark and gift department, was supervisor over the checkers and served on the board of directors.  Many customers ask her advice on everything from what over the counter medicine was best for what ailed them to what card would best fit their need.  Excellent customer service was her goal for every customer. Because of her many years serving the public, Marcella could tell you who was related to whom and where they lived.  Marcella retired in November of 2007.  In July of 2014 Marcella moved into Yuma Life Care Center due to her severe arthritis.

Marcella was a brownie leader and taught Sunday school both at New Haven Methodist Church and the Yuma Methodist Church where she was a member for 52 years. One of Marcella’s passions was the American Legion Auxiliary, which she supported for 45 years and was a life time member.  She loved to follow her children in their school and sports actives and in later years she was one of her grandchildren’s biggest fans, attending many sporting events and school programs.   She was very proud of her 13 grandchildren along with their spouses and her twenty great-grandchildren.  Marcella was the “family doctor” and could be counted on to give her best remedy for whatever illness or injury her children or their family might have.

Marcella was preceded in death by her parents, George and Catherine Ebbers, husband of 60 years, Joseph Henry Glanz, son Jerry Lee Glanz, sisters Dorothy Lechman and Delores Brant.  She is survived by her children: son, Randy and wife Marcia of Yuma; daughter Sherry Yanez and husband Jaime of Yuma; son Billy and wife Vicky of Otis; daughter Lindy Bossow and husband Craig of Brighton, CO; daughter Penny Glanz of Yuma.  Grandchildren:  Adam and Brooke Glanz of Yuma; Kim Shepherd and husband Todd, daughter Emily of Gering NE;  Kelly Glanz of Silt, CO  and children Kierstin and husband Skylor  Purscell of Grand Junction, CO, Erika Glanz and fiancé Cody Soefker of Grand Junction, CO and Joseph Glanz of Sterling, CO;  Daniel and Kris Glanz and children Talon, Titus and Tarek of Idalia, CO; Jaret and Kathi Glanz and children Layla and Liam of Yuma; Nathan and Megan Glanz and daughters , Tycie, Peyton, Jordan, Logan, Kaydence and Hadley of Yuma; Chastidy Kazmer and friend Russ Nardo,  sons Odin and Peja of Broomfield, CO;  Fremont and Marci Bossow of Brighton, CO; Tyson and Dana Bossow of Christmas Valley, OR; Jeremiah Bossow and fiancé Jennifer Clark of Brighton, CO;  April Berry and son Braeden Strauss of Yuma; Heather Berry of Evans, CO; Brenton Berry of Yuma.  Sisters: Mary Bradney, Rosella Ebbers, Shirley Furrow and husband Dale, Mildred Silvius and husband Don, Annabell Shoemaker and husband Tom, Helen Schrecengost and friend David Nye.
