Genevieve Ellen Smith was born May 24, 1939 in Wray, CO to Roy and Dona Jacobs.  She had 10 brothers and sisters.   She passed away on May 24, 2016 at the Yuma District Hospital after a long illness.

Genevieve graduated from Laird High School in 1958 and married Leonard Dean Smith on May 10, 1969 in Wray.  To this union were 3 children; Leon, Elmer and Jason.  These children would join Genevieve’s other children Bonnie, Scott, Wes, and Kim.

Genevieve spent some of her life working as a cook at Farmer’s Café and the Cattleman’s Restaurant in Wray.   She also worked as a Nurses aide at the Cederdale Nursing Home but her employment was cut short due to her physical health.

People who knew Genevieve called her the “sweet little lady.”  She was nice to everyone she met and would give her last dime to someone if they needed it.  She enjoyed her time with her family and friends, but it was her grandchildren that really brightened up her days.   Her children and grandchildren spent many hours joking and laughing with her because she had such a great sense of humor.   She also looked forward to watching the Colorado Rockies and the Denver Broncos, which she called “her Broncs.”

She is survived by four brothers Elmer Jacobs of Haxtun, CO, Willard and wife Joyce Jacobs of Commerce City, CO, Bobby Jacobs of Colorado Springs, CO Donald Jacobs of Holyoke, CO,  three sisters Darlene Pilkington of Sterling, CO, Nellie and  husband Larry Hunter of Quincy, IL,  Elsie and husband Art Marshal of Brenhall, TX, four sons Scott Moore of Wray,  Leon Smith of Wray,  Elmer and  wife Tonya Smith of Yuma,  Jason Smith of McCook, NE,  nine grandchildren Zacharie and Jeffrey Smith, Gavin Klie, Cole Mitchell, Damian, Sadie, Alicia, Braden, and Chloe Smith, numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.  Everyone will miss her dearly.

She was preceded in death by her husband Leonard Smith, her father and mother Roy and Dona Jacobs, three children Bonnie Jacobs Montoya,  Kim and Wes Moore,  siblings LeRoy Jacobs, Verlin Jacobs,  Betty Oestman and a daughter in law Carmen Smith.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at 10 a.m. at the Assembly of God with Harold Jackson officiating. Internment in Grandview Cemetery.  Arrangement by Baucke Funeral Home of Yuma.
