Dorothy Eleanor Myers

Dorothy “Eleanor” (Ahnstedt) Myers was born January 22nd 1921 in Sedgwick county Colorado to Arthur and Hazel (Padget) Ahnstedt.  She was the third child, two older brothers Walter and Lawrence and younger sister Irene (Reyher).

Eleanor  was raised on a farm north of Haxtun.  Road a horse to grade school 7 miles round trip, graduated from Haxtun High School.

Eleanor went to beauty school and became a beautician and later opened a shop in Haxtun with her sister called “ The Elrene “.

Eleanor met the love of her life Vernon Myers and married November 28th 1943.  To this union two children were born Cathy in 1946 and Larry in 1948.  Vernon was in the army overseas when Cathy was born.  Vernon and Eleanor lived on a farm near Clarkville until 1978 when they moved to Yuma.  Larry and Cathy’s husband Orval continued the farming operation for several years. 

Vernon and Eleanor enjoyed many years of traveling to trap shoots during the winter months and trips with the Heritage Club.  She loved playing golf, bowling, shanghai rummy with her grandkids and especially enjoyed playing bridge with her friends.  She played any time she could which could be 2 to 3 times a week and enjoyed going to Black Hawk to play a few slot machines.

In June of 2017 she moved into Parrish Care and enjoyed her time there.  She was 8 days shy of making her 97th birthday.  She loved spending time with her kids and grandchildren playing cards and telling stories.

Eleanor is preceded in death by her husband Vernon of 65 years, her parents, brothers, sister, sister-in-law Esther Ahnstedt, brother-in-law Floyd Reyher, mother and father-in-law Lee and Hazel Myers, granddaughter Mary Katherine Myers.

Eleanor is survived by daughter Cathy Rawson and husband Orval, son Larry Myers and wife Joan, three grandchildren Dondi Kratzenstein and husband James of Littleton Colorado, DeAnn Sewell and husband Kevin of Yuma, Craig Myers and wife Krystal of Parker Colorado, three great grandchildren Alex and Justin Kratzenstein and Callie Myers.  One niece Beverly Slaughter and husband Jerry of Castle Rock and 1 nephew Michael Reyher of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; two great nieces Minda Carmen and Ashlee Roadhouse and a host of extended family and friends.

The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, January 19, 2018 at 11:00 a.m.  at the Yuma United Methodist Church with Pastor Jaime Nieves officiating.  The Interment will be at the Haxtun Cemetery in Haxtun, Colorado on Friday, January 19, 2018 at 2:00 p.m.  Baucke Funeral Home directed the service.
