Beulah Burdene Campbell

“Aunt Boo” to most of us, was born December 16, 1923 to Henry and Eva Campbell in Yuma, Colorado. At the age of 93, she went to heaven to meet her Lord and Savior on December 27, 2016 in Phoenix, Arizona. She always shared many memories of being raised in North Hyde and various places around Yuma. Her younger life consisted of helping her father farm the land and milking cows. After graduating from Otis, Colorado High School in 1942, she devoted her life to God and to helping people. In 1945, she entered Pasadena College where she graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree and in 1949 went to the Nazarene Theological Seminary. She continued her education in 1950 with nurses training in Kansas City where she became a Registered Nurse. In 1953, she became the Pastor of Bethel Church, south of Yuma and was ordained in 1955. Beulah’s life as Missionary/Nurse began in 1956. In Flagstaff, she met Gertrude Jones and her two adopted daughters Jeannette and Kathy. Gertrude became her mentor and friend as she learned to minister and care for the Navajo people first at Low Mountain Indian Mission and then Smoke Signal Navajo Mission in 1958. She became Pastor of the Winslow Nazarene Indian Church in 1961 and also Twin Wells Indian School in 1963. In 1975, she returned to Yuma to care for her mother and worked at the Yuma Hospital until 1977. She then went back to Arizona to Pastor the Lehi Church of the Nazarene, wearing out her vehicles by helping and ministering to everyone from the Lehi, San Carlos, Ft. McDowell, Parker Reservations and countless other communities. In 1989, Beulah was the Southwest Indian District Church Planter working with the Ft. McDowell Indians and the New Beginnings Church as their pastor. After “retiring” in June 2005, she continued to be Associate Pastor of New Beginnings and the Indians in San Carlos. Beulah remained to be an Ordained Elder of the Colorado Church of the Nazarene. She believed she was “born to serve the Lord and loved to preach the Word of God”.

Beulah is preceded in passing by her mother Eva, father Bert, three sisters Fern Brown, Ruby Brown, Edith Henderson and two brothers, Vaughn and Lloyd Campbell. Survivors include four sisters Merna Wall of Enum Claw, Washington, Roberta Stucky of Grand Junction, Colorado, Eunice Richardson of Johnstown, Colorado, Naomi Walker of Bethany, Oklahoma, one adopted family member, Kathy Taylor, her husband Gene and two sons of Phoenix, Arizona, along with many nieces, nephews and friends.

The funeral service was held at the First Church of the Nazarene in Yuma, Colorado on January 7, 2017.  The service was officiated by Dave McQuisten and the arrangements were made by Baucke Funeral Home.
